Who was Charles Darwin?
We all know what he did. He wrote "Origin of Species", and revolutionized all of science. But what was he like? What did he believe? There is much more to Mr. Darwin than meets the eye... (and, oddly enough, much more to the eye than ever met Charles Darwin.)

1. Darwin was an atheist.
This important fact is often overlooked. Most people believe Charlie was agnostic, but statements made in the Origin, lead me to believe that the idea of there being a creator God, was appauling to his 'scientific' senses. But you imagine that he lost his faith *after* he came to discover the world around him aboard the USS BEAGLE, right? Wrong. Click here for more on this. And nothing has inspired atheistic thought like darwinism. Why are there "darwin" fish on this page about Atheism?

2. Darwin had doubts about Evolution.
Darwin himself expressed doubt about his own conclusions, admitting that they were very hard to accept. Yet, strangely teachers who express these doubts to their students can lose their jobs! Consider these quotes from C. Darwin - Origin of Species:

"nothing at first can appear more difficult to believe than that the more complex organisms and instincts should have been perfected, not by means superior to, though analogous with, human reason, but by the accumulation of innumerable slight variations…." And to think that the eye could evolve "by natural selection seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree."

About Missing Links, he wrote, “Why then is not every geological formation and every stratum full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated organic chain; and this, perhaps is the most obvious and serious objection which can be urged against the theory. The explanation lies, as I believe, in the extreme imperfection of the geological record” [Origin of Species Dent & Sons Lon.1971 pg.292-293].

3. Darwin was troubled.
As a young man, Charlie was full of life and vigor. After losing his faith and writing "Origin" he suffered terribly and had physical symptoms which could be consistent with troubled mental conditions. Doctors were baffled. What was haunting him? 4. Darwin didn't invent Evolution.
Much of what is attributed to Mr. Darwin didn't start there. He was not entirely original. This is perhaps a somewhat trivial point, but it still comes as a surprise to some. His grandfather Erasmus, for example, was an athiest who believed in common descent.

5. Darwin was an racist.
It is not widely known, but is established fact that Charles did not view all "modern humans" as equals. White Europeans, such as himself were not to be considered as low on the order of things as dark skinned people. This is clearly stated in his writings. Why don't they teach this fact of his personal bias in school? Consider this quote: "At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace the savage races throughout the world. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes... will no doubt be exterminated. The break between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as baboon, instead of as now between the negro or Australian and the gorilla."

The Dark Side of Evolution
With the advancement of the "lower human" picture of darkskinned people, some proponents of evolutionary theory actually sought out what they believed to be living transitionals between man and ape. Ota Benga a black pygmy was captured like an animal in 1904, caged and brought to the United States where he was displayed in the Bronx Zoo in New York under the label "ancient ancestors of man" along with a few chimpanzees, a gorilla named Dinah, and an orang-utan called Dohung. This horrific story is one of the lesser of the evils brought about by Darwin influenced thought. Ota had a wife and two children. Unable to bear the cruelty of this treatment Ota eventually committed suicide.

Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler's belief in Evolution was a cornerstone of his genocidal actions. Hitler used Evolutionary thought about "lower races" to justify the mass murder of entire ethnic groups. By refusing to accept that ALL human life is sacred and created equal, he was able to destroy human life without pity. The following quote is taken from his famous book "Mein Kampf":
Every crossing between two breeds which are not quite equal results in a product which holds an intermediate place between the levels of the two parents. This means that the offspring will indeed be superior to the parent which stands in the biologically lower order of being, but not so high as the higher parent. For this reason it must eventually succumb in any struggle against the higher species. Such mating contradicts the will of Nature towards the selective improvements of life in general. The favourable preliminary to this improvement is not to mate individuals of higher and lower orders of being but rather to allow the complete triumph of the higher order. The stronger must dominate and not mate with the weaker, which would signify the sacrifice of its own higher nature. Only the born weakling can look upon this principle as cruel, and if he does so it is merely because he is of a feebler nature and narrower mind; for if such a law did not direct the process of evolution then the higher development of organic life would not be conceivable at all. MEIN KAMPF - (CHAPTER 11)
Also, joining the ranks of wicked Evolutionists, were Russian communist leader Leon Trotsky (1879–1940), and Russian dictator and revolutionist, Joseph Stalin (1879–1953). Stalin is regarded as the worst mass-murderer the world has ever seen.

6. Darwin probably believes in God now.

There is some evidence to suggest that near the end of his life Darwin surrendered to the God of the bible. Some have dismissed this out of hand as pure hearsay, but others insist that it is well documented. (see Lady Hope)
At any rate, Darwin and all others who have believed in Evolution, and disbelieved will one day be forced to accept the truth.

"God has given him a name which is above every name – that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…" Philippians 2:9-11

"It will be too late then to choose your side. There is no use saying you choose to kneel when it has become impossible to stand. That will not be the time for choosing; it will be the time when we discover which side we have really chosen, whether we realized it before or not. Now, today, this moment is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back, to give us that chance. It will not last forever. We must take it or leave it." - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
