Monkey See, Monkey Do.
I love monkeys. Really. Fun to watch, and interact with, observe at the zoo. Would I want to be related? Not really. But, my feelings about monkeys and apes are pretty irrelevant here. The question at hand is, of course, ARE we indeed, descendants of the lovable hairy creatures. Just off the top of my head I can think of several things which I think really distinguish us from our supposed distant relatives. It should be pointed out, however, that simians have, in fact been into outerspace. But, of course, they did have some help....

(We are learning more and more about Monkeys, I am sure, so if some of my information is wrong, please send me an email, and I will be sure and clear up the errors.)

  • Monkeys have never built cities.
  • Monkeys don't play cards or chess.
  • Monkeys don't wear clothes of any kind.
  • Monkeys are not good at planning and scheming.
  • Monkeys are not good singers. Nor do they sing at all.
  • Monkeys don't make music. (or even whistle)
  • Monkeys don't drive cars.
  • Monkeys don't bury the dead, or attend church services.
  • Monkeys don't have any interest in pets.
  • Monkeys don't keep in touch with friends.
  • Monkeys don't write books, or even read.
  • Monkeys have no spoken or written language.
  • Monkeys don't build boats and sail the high seas. (or even rivers)
  • Monkeys don't knit, quilt or even sew.
  • Monkeys show no interest in politics.
  • Monkeys are unaware that we think they are relatives.

Admittedly, this is a shortened list, but, you get the idea. But wait, you say, that is because simians were PRE-human! The early HUMANS were so primitive (let's do a word study on that one, sometime. Isn't the word "primate" in there somewhere?) that they were just like, kinda smart monkeys! Hmmm... I don't think so. Time to take another look at our "primitive" human ancestors....
