Pretty smart for a guy whose mom was a monkey.
As soon as Darwin released The Origin of Species in 1859, his eager young colleages began scouring the earth for "primitive" life, especially those infamous "missing links" that were so desperately needed to proove common ancestry with the ape. For something that had been around for at least 2 million years, lived and died, it was strangely difficult to find anything suitable. A tooth here, a skull cap there. It must have been frustrating to say the least. So frustrating that in some cases, missing links were simply "invented"!
Consider this quote:
In 1982 Dr. Lyall Watson stated: "The fossils that decorate our family tree are so scarce that there are still more scientists than specimens. The remarkable fact is that all of the physical evidence we have for human evolution can still be placed, with room to spare, inside a single coffin!"1 Likewise, a 1994 article in Time Magazine admitted that: "Yet despite more than a century of digging, the fossil record remains maddeningly sparse. With so few clues, even a single bone that doesn't fit into the picture can upset everything. Virtually every major discovery has put deep cracks in the conventional wisdom and forced scientists to concoct new theories, amid furious debate."
If Evolution were true, not only would it be easy to find links, but there would be such a smooth graduation from Monkey to Man, that it would be difficult to tell where one stopped and the other began! And this could be said for all of the other animals on earth. There should be no distinct "kinds" found in the fossil record, but they are. And, they are the same "kinds" found alive today, with the exception of those which have become extinct. This is not surprising to those who believe that God created animals of various kinds, each to propogate after their own kind. Interesting also, that one of the main criteria in establishing what is an animal 'kind' is it's abilibity to mate with others of the same kind. (for example any dog can mate with any other dog. They are all dog 'kind'.)
One example of an invented missing link was the now recognized fraud "Piltdown Man". Wait a minute... You mean to tell me that scientists lie? Oh yes. (Click here for more on that.)
But let's say for the sake of argument, that monkeys did slowly graduate to humanhood in a slow gradual process, taking millions of years. Examples of "nearly human" bones would certainly be easier to find. And another artifact would be found. A slow and gradual move toward civilization.
But what we keep finding are human-like bones, with things like tools, carvings, paintings, burial sites, language and even medical know-how, such as surgery. Yes, you read that right. Surgery. In addition, we find all of this in the last several thousand years. Previous to that? Just monkey bones. Consider some of this archaeological news that continues to "push back" the dates for "civilized" man, and also surprise us with their levels of sophistication!

And what do we continue to find?
Tools and towns, of course! And the creationist, that is, those who believe God placed people on the earth, would fully expect this! But where is the evidence of "less intelligent man"? (keep in mind, that less technologically advanced, does not inherently mean less intelligent.) And let's not forget that if you were to stop right now, and bury everyone who is now alive, there would be in the earth quite a few, seemingly "primitive" people. Some would still be unfamiliar with clothing, use primitive spears and tools, and live in huts. Are they close descendents of the Ape? No, they are humans, surrounded by their culture, which may or may not include a laptop running Windows 2000.
Digs at sites that contain actual HUMANS find the same thing time after time. People, who, unlike apes, work with tools, hunt for food with weapons, bury their dead, live in huts, houses or cities, and create art.
